Watching Dance: Kinesthetic Empathy
The goal of this project is to better understand the neuronal processes that underlie affective and kinesthetic responses to the observation of dance movements. The project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and involves collaboration between Dr. Corinne Jola (now at INSERM-CEA, NeuroSpin Centre, France), Professor Frank Pollick, and Dr. Marie-Helene Grosbras at Glasgow University, Professor Dee Reynolds at the University of Manchester, Dr. Anna Kuppuswamy of Imperial College, and Dr. Matthew Reason of York St John University. The techniques that were used include qualitative audience research, behavioural, brain imaging (fMRI) and neurophysiology (EMG, TMS). Please see also the project website www.watchingdance.org.
