Description

The plastic bag floating in the wind is the quintessential abandoned object, but when put into a theatrical frame it has the power to captivate the viewer. Nenagh Watson coined the term 'ephemeral animation' to describe this animation of debris by natural elements. But how is it possible for these objects to convey feelings to an audience?

From a neuroscience perspective, our perception is highly tuned into the interaction of objects. When two or three objects interact with each other, our brain naturally anthropomorphises them.

This event will include demonstration as well as discussion.

Speakers:

Nenagh Watson, puppeteer and AHRC funded Creative Research Fellow, hosted by Central School of Speech & Drama

Frank E Pollick, Professor, Psychology, University of Glasgow.
